New Bag Spotlight: Khaite Augusta Crossbody Bag

If you follow celebrity culture and fashion, you may remember the cashmere bralette and cardigan that Katie Holmes was spotted wearing on an off duty look that sent everyone into an obsessed frenzy. The bralette sold out quickly and since then, people have spent a lot of time talking about this major style moment on Katie. Vogue spoke to her later and she said she purchased the items herself and had no clue her candid street style snap would go viral. She loosely buttoned the cardigan, leaving some buttons open, to expose the matching bralette underneath, and paired it with jeans to look so effortlessly cool. If you are interested in nabbing her often sold out look, the bralette and cardigan just became available again for pre-order.

A few months prior, the brand behind this epic style moment, Khaite, showed its Fall 19 Fashion Show in NYC and debuted bags, named KHAITE Luggage. We covered Khaite’s bags as ones to watch and many of you felt conflicted in the comments about the bags themselves. Someone said the bags looked like a pairing of The Row and Celine, and I can totally see and feel that vibe. I suppose it’s hard for a brand to create a line of bags and make them feel entirely new and different. While there are hints at other brand’s bags in this line, I actually really like what the brand is doing with its bags, and the Khaite Augusta Crossbody stood out to me most.

My immediate thoughts were that this bag looked very elevated, yet felt familiar. As I said above, someone sensed The Row and Celine vibes, and I feel both in this design. Crafted in Italy, the leather looks incredibly soft and malleable and the bag stands out with its gold frame top. The leather folds together beautifully, and is said to increase the interior carrying capacity. The shoulder strap is also made of supple calfskin, and can be adjusted or removed which would allow this bag to convert to a clutch (with a very new Bottega Veneta vibe). On the inside, you’ll find a cotton grosgrain lining and an interior card pocket and clasp closure.

The leather looks really soft and luxurious, which can make it hard to photograph (the pictures on Khaite’s site look much better than on Farfetch). The price is $1,780 via Farfetch, and there are other options from the brand (some marked down right now) if you want to check them out here.
