Arguably Louis Vuitton’s most popular all-leather bag, the Capucines was first introduced for Fall 2013. The design was launched as the brand shifted its collections to include a greater selection of cleaner, minimally branded designs versus its mostly monogram and logo focused bags. When the Capucines was first released the bags bore some of Louis Vuitton’s highest price tags.
Named after Louis Vuitton’s original Maison, which was located on rue Neuve-des-Capucines, this now classic silhouette has been reimagined in countless ways. The clean lines and minimalist design of the Capucines makes it an ideal blank canvas for both seasonal iterations and capsule collaborations alike.
Originally offered in two sizes—the GM and MM, Louis Vuitton has since added smaller options which have met the demands of consumers driven by the mini-bag movement. While the GM is no longer being produced, currently Louis Vuitton offers 4 sizes of the Capucines: PM, MM, BB and Mini.
Though overall an elegant and sophisticated silhouette, two new elements have been added to the Capucines for Spring/Summer 2020, opening up this otherwise classic bag to a broader audience—streetwear fanatics I’m looking at you.
A colorfully cool, translucent plexiglass handle adds a unique and trendy touch to this typically more timeless handbag. Additionally, a newly introduced, wide cross-body strap gives the mini a dressed down touch. With a more relaxed feel, the new Capucines is a must have. While an all-leather Capucines mini will set you back $4,200, the novelty version with plexiglass handle retails for $4,450 in the mini size and $5,050 in the BB size.
