News out of Paris, France this weekend is a prime example of large corporations doing their part to help combat the spread of COVID-19. LVMH, parent company of Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Christian Dior and more announced yesterday that it would start making hand-sanitizing gel at some of its French facilities. Currently, the facilities are producing perfume and cosmetics for brands like Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain, Business of Fashion reports.
The luxury conglomerate will shift its production in order to start making large quantities of hydroalcoholic gel as early as today. Whatever they are able to produce will then be donated to the French healthcare system in order to help authorities halt the spread of COVID-19.
France, like other countries around the world, has stepped up its efforts in order to lessen the spread of this novel virus. According to the World Health Organization’s latest report, which was published Saturday morning, France had recorded more than 3,600 confirmed cases of the virus and 79 deaths. The number of infected people in Italy now exceeds 17,600.
Though this ever-evolving crisis is putting an intense strain on our physical and mental health as well as our economy and health care systems, we can all do our part to help in ways both big and small. This is one of the first instances of a fashion company stepping in to use their supply chains to help. However, as BoF states, other brands have also made sizable donations to help combat the virus.
